Unfortunately, I Got One Right

Atthe very beginning of the year I predicted the Broncos would go 10-6…OK, so I missed that one but in my defense that was before they had played a single game. A few games in and I changed my call to 7-9 and stuck with it until the end, when they finished…

7 wins – 9 losses

Where do the Broncos begin to fix things? I have no idea because there is so much wrong with them right now. In fact, it’s hard to find something that IS right with them. Only 4 come to mind: Jay Cutler, Brandon Marshall, Brandon Stockley and Jason Elam> OK, I’ll throw in the Run Blocking Scheme, but that one hardly counts.

I’m not paid to fix them so I won’t even pretend I have the solution. I bleed Orange and Blue and just hope Shanahan finds the fix for what has to be the most abysmal season of his career (and I thought that was last year’s season!).

My own fantasy football team did no better…only winning 3 games all year. So I say for myself and for the Broncos: There’s always next year!

An End and a Beginning

As part of my devotionals this year I’ve been reading from a book called Every Day for Every Man. Today was obviously the last entry and it concluded with the following powerful prayer. This is my prayer as we close out 2007 and look toward 2008…

Lord, I want the end of this year to be the end of my old way of life—
     the end of sexual impurity,
the end of serving myself instead of others,
the end of putting my career and goals ahead of
people I love who are counting on me,
and, worst of all, ahead of you and your plans for my life.
I want this new year to be the beginning of a new commitment in every part of my life.
Thank you for a new start through the power of the blood of Jesus
and the power of the your Spirit within me.
In Jesus’ Name,
     Amen.

New Year’s Resolutions??

I’m not much for New Year’s Resolutions…for the obvious reasons (they never really stick). But I have been giving some thought and prayer to what I want/need to focus on for 2008. I’ve settled on two primary goals with the Spirit’s help (in coming up with them and in keeping them):

  1. Getting to know God better: For me this will focus on my prayer life. I pray today, but it often just feels shallow and weak. I want to have an effective, powerful, meaningful relationship with God through prayer so it will be my focus for 2008.
  2. Developing better Family Devotional Habits: I have had the best of intentions in 2007, but it just hasn’t been consistent so I am renewing my efforts to spend consistent time this year in our family devotions. This really entails time spent with Anita and time with the kids. I just need to make it a priority and make it happen! It’s too important to let it slip.

I’m the first to admit that I’m not perfect (very far from it), but I’m striving to do better and to be led by God’s Spirit each and every day. 2007 was truly a great year as I got to know God better as He revealed Himself to me more and more. He is truly my Lord, my King, and my Friend! Here’s to an even better 2008!

As the deer longs for streams of water,
so I long for you, O God.
I thirst for God, the living God.
Psalm 42:1-2, NLT

The Triple Dockers Perform

Our kids spent the better part of the day today (in between cleaning the house and going sledding) working on their new band and getting ready for a performance for Anita and I tonight. The band is called “The Triple Dockers” and features Lindsay on Vocals, Logan on the Guitar, and Kyle on the drums.

Here is a video of one of the songs they performed for us. Enjoy…

The Year of the Returns

I don’t know what the deal is with Christmas presents this year, but we have had a rush of returns and exchanges this year. I can’t remember EVER having to return so many gifts…and not because we don’t like them, but because they don’t work for one reason or another.

We have counted a total of 9 gifts this year that we have to exchange. And the range from Anita’s Espresso Machine to Kyle’s Furberry. Just kind of weird…hopefully it’s out of “our system” now and there will be no more returns for the rest of our lives!  I wish!  =o)

Huck & Chuck: Episode 1 – Why Mike?

Mike Huckabee and Chuck Norris have created a series of videos covering the major issues of this presidential campaign and what Huckabee stands for on each one of them. I will be sharing them here over the course of the week.

Just Passing Through

I think I may have found a theme verse for the Journeyman Journal blog this morning during my devotional reading:

Lord, remind me how brief my time on earth will be.
Remind me that my days are numbered—how fleeting my life is.
For I am your guest—a traveler passing through, as my ancestors were before me.
Psalm 39:4, 12b

David gives a stark reminder that my time here on earth is both brief and transitory. I need to keep this in mind and treasure every moment with my family and friends. I may be “a traveler passing through”, but I want to make the journey count—and that’s kind of the point of this blog…to record my thoughts along the path God is taking me.

Life is truly a journey and it’s more meaningful when you take God along with you! Thanks for being on the journey with me too.
