It has been a rough week. And aside from a decent Mother’s Day, I can’t say the weekend was much better. Saturday was not my most shining moment as a father or a husband. And I continue to wrestle with God about my relationship with Him…it just isn’t what I think it should be (which very well may be the problem). I feel David did in Psalm 22:1-2: “My God, my God, why have you abandoned me? Why are you so far away when I groan for help? Every day I call to you, my God, but you do not answer. Every night you hear my voice, but I find no relief.”
This morning I poured it all out to God. I got brutally honest. With God, but mostly with myself. As I spent time in God’s Word (after asking Him to speak to me and help me listen better) this is the word I got:
The Lord keeps you from harm and watches over your life.
The Lord keeps watch over you as you come and go, both now and forever.
Psalm 121:7-8, NLT
He’s watching. And He cares. It doesn’t matter if I feel it (although it’s becoming a struggle)…He IS watching. And He DOES care. For today, that’s enough.
One of my favorite things is watching people get shocked. Don’t ask me why, it’s one of my many little quirks. It doesn’t even have to be real. I don’t understand it, but it cracks me up every time. It’s one of the reasons that The Taser is one of my favorite posts of all time (and one of the most popular posts on Journeyman Journal).
In that vein…here is one of the best videos on this topic I’ve seen. This is a guy who willingly submits to being shocked with an electric dog collar (the kind that’s used to stop dogs from barking). This thing has six levels…make sure you make it to the last one (assuming you can still see through the tears by that time). Hilarious!! And remember…he’s doing this willingly…
My brain has hurt a lot this week…frustrating, tiring week of work. But God is always by my side (and uses humor to lift my spirits). He gave me this word to chew on for today:

I am terrible at memorizing Scripture…no matter how hard I try. But I have my theme verse memorized, because it speaks to me, encourages me, and challenges me. Here it is…

In general this in one of my favorite Psalms (not number 1, but that’s another post altogether). I need this reminder every day and I’m sure that’s why I come back to it over and over again. It’s the desire of my heart. It’s my calling…to please God with my words and the very intent of my heart.
This video was sent to me at work yesterday and I just had to share! There is nothing like some good old fashioned British bathroom humor…and even better when Cagney & Lacey are involved. As a follow-up to my previous post about Craig Ferguson being the best late night host (IMHO)…and to test what is hopefully my now working polling feature…here is a poll (also on the sidebar) so that you can express your own opinion. Over the past few weeks there have been two “themes” God has been working on in my journey with Him: Listening (praying) and Walking with Him (being in His presence). I even started reading Jon Eldridge’s book Walking with God to help me deepen and enrich my personal walk with God (good book so far in case you were wondering).
I don’t know why I’m amazed by it anymore, but God hit both of these topics in my devotional reading this morning (and yes, I believe God does this…it’s His “playful” side…if you will):
I love the Lord because He hears my voice and my prayers for mercy.
Because He bends down to listen, I will pray as long as I have breath!
. . .
And so I walk in the Lord’s presence as I live here on earth!
Psalm 116:1-2,9 NLT
Two things struck me in this passage. First, God listens to us. In fact, He “bends down” to hear our prayers…that’s how much He desires to hear from us and communicate with us. I’m making it too hard!
Second, I will walk in God’s presence as long as I am on this earth. That’s how God designed it from the beginning…to walk with us in The Garden…and that’s what He wants now. To walk with us. I’m on the journey and am thankful He’s on it with me!
