Hunting and Fantasy Football

Tuesday, November 13th, 2007

I know it’s an odd combination, but it’s been awhile since I provided an update. I’ll start with fantasy football.

Here’s the simple, plain truth: My Team Sucks! With just three games left in the season I am now 3-7, assuring myself that I can do no better than 6-7 (and that would frankly take a miracle since I couldn’t even generate 30 points last week in a league where the top score every week has been above 100). My best hope now it to try and win the Toilet Bowl and save some of my pride. I thought I had a good plan for the year–the players just didn’t get it done when I needed it. Already thinking about next year!

So hunting must have been better right? Wrong! Justin and I travelled 4 hours to Merideth, CO and saw absolutely nothing (not a single deer). The same weekend there was a 5×5 buck hit by a car in the heart of Parker but we didn’t see anything. I see more deer every Sunday on the way to church. I do know that it wasn’t just us…nobody in the area saw anything. So we’ve paid some dues and look forward to the Elk hunt in January.

Unlimited Resources

Sunday, November 11th, 2007

Our Men’s Group (Bravo Platoon) is going through the book Ephesians. This upcoming Tuesday we will be reading and discussing chapter 3–which is turning into one of my favorite chapters in the book (if not the Bible as a whole). So I’ve been using Ephesians in my devotionals and this morning I came across this verse (which is interesting since I’ve read this chapter who knows how many times and only now did this particular verse jump out at me):

I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources
he will give you mighty inner strength through his Holy Spirit.
Ephesians 3:16

Wow, for anyone who has ever needed “inner strength” this is a promise like none other (and I think we all qualify). And this is my prayer for you and for myself–that the Holy Spirit will give us all of the inner strength we need to face our daily struggles.

And the best news? He has “glorious, unlimited resources” for us to tap into. All we need to do is take advantage of those resources! How? Well, have you been spending time with Him like you should? (Don’t worry, I’m really asking myself more than you).

Broncos Predictions Update

Saturday, November 10th, 2007

OK, so I was WAY too optimistic with my W-L predictions for the Broncos (I had them going 11-6 on Sept 16th). Here is my updated prediction…  and I can’t believe that Denver has a shot at first place in the division this week! I have realistic expectations for this year (meaning I’m looking to next year for the real turn around):

   Opponent     Prediction/Actual
at Buffalo            W/W
Oakland              W/W
Jacksonville        W/L
at Indianapolis    L/L
San Diego           W/L
BYE
Pittsburgh          W/L
Green_Bay         W/L
at Detroit            L/L
at Kansas City   L
Tennessee          W
at Chicago           L
at Oakland         W
Kansas City      W
at Houston        W
at San Diego     L
Minnesota          W

Season Prediction: 7 and 9

Note that I m currently 50% on my predictions for the year so far…not great, not bad.

I’m Back…

Saturday, November 10th, 2007

It has been over a week since I last blogged and I have missed it. The reason? Time.

It’s has been a crazy week, but things seem to be settling down a little bit…at least I hope that’s the case.

But I have been doing some great reading this week and God has been challengin me in new ways–as usual. With all the busy-ness (is that a word) that’s been my life for the past few weeks, I’ve had a tough time keeping everything in the right priority. Sees I’ve often been working on the more pressing stuff instead of the most important stuff.

I read a great quote this week that I am still working on, it comes from page 33 of the book Your First Two Years in Youth Ministry by Doug Fields:

I know God doesn’t plan more for me to do than he’s given me time for.

Of course, this means that if I’m doing more than I have time for then I’m doing stuff God hasn’t asked me to do. OUCH!

I’m working on my priorities and getting them to line up with the time I invest. I must admit that right now my time investments and my priorities are not in synch. And it’s easy to say you need to get them in line…but it’s not always easy. Both because I’m used to how things are and it’s hard work doing what really matters.

But I keep trying. And it’s a work in progress.
