Chuck and Huck

Thursday, November 29th, 2007

I’m sure everyone (all 2 ofyou) have been wondering who I’m going to officially endorse for President. Well, the wait is over…I’m getting behind Mike Huckabee for President. There are many reasons (which I will cover in a future blog), but I’m not the only one. New Man Magazine has endoresed Huckabee (click here to read the article) and so has Chuck Norris (do you even need another reason?).

I saw two videos regarding Churck Norris and Mike Huckabee tonight. The first is funny (and serious at the same time) and is thanks to a fellow blogger’s website (that’s where I saw it first). You gotta appreciate a Presidential candidate with a sense of humor…

The second video is Chuck Norris’ endorsement of Mike Huckabee (not funny, but still a good video)…

Check out Mike’s Website and learn more about him and his run for the White House at www.mikehuckabee.com.

The Quiet Temple

Thursday, November 29th, 2007

During my devotional time this morning I read this verse:

The stones used in the construction of the Temple were finished at the quarry,
so there was no sound of hammer, ax, or any other iron tool at the building site. (I Kings 6:7)

I don’t know why exactly, but I love this verse. The entire passage is about Solomon building the Temple for God and the Ark of the Covenant. It talks about the gold overlays, the cedar beams, the scale of the project–and in the middle of all that discussion the author takes the time to make the point that the building site was pretty quiet–no axes or hammers of any kind.

So what? What’s the big deal? I don’t know…but there’s something there (at least there is for me this morning). It’s unexpected…and it’s a small thing I would normally miss, but God is pointing it out to me this morning.

Maybe it’s about the noise in our (OK, my) lives? Seems like noise and motion and commotion is a constant in daily life now-a-days. Perhaps I just needs to slow down a little, create some peace and quiet, and let God fill His temple–me. It’s easy to say…harder to put into practice, but if Solomon could build an entire Temple (over an 11 year span) without a lot of noise–I should be able to stop and create some silence in my spirit so I can hear His Spirit.

Or maybe it’s just cool that Solomon could it this way? Or maybe I just ate something funky for dinner last night. You decide!
