Chuck and Huck

Thursday, November 29th, 2007

I’m sure everyone (all 2 ofyou) have been wondering who I’m going to officially endorse for President. Well, the wait is over…I’m getting behind Mike Huckabee for President. There are many reasons (which I will cover in a future blog), but I’m not the only one. New Man Magazine has endoresed Huckabee (click here to read the article) and so has Chuck Norris (do you even need another reason?).

I saw two videos regarding Churck Norris and Mike Huckabee tonight. The first is funny (and serious at the same time) and is thanks to a fellow blogger’s website (that’s where I saw it first). You gotta appreciate a Presidential candidate with a sense of humor…

The second video is Chuck Norris’ endorsement of Mike Huckabee (not funny, but still a good video)…

Check out Mike’s Website and learn more about him and his run for the White House at www.mikehuckabee.com.

The Quiet Temple

Thursday, November 29th, 2007

During my devotional time this morning I read this verse:

The stones used in the construction of the Temple were finished at the quarry,
so there was no sound of hammer, ax, or any other iron tool at the building site. (I Kings 6:7)

I don’t know why exactly, but I love this verse. The entire passage is about Solomon building the Temple for God and the Ark of the Covenant. It talks about the gold overlays, the cedar beams, the scale of the project–and in the middle of all that discussion the author takes the time to make the point that the building site was pretty quiet–no axes or hammers of any kind.

So what? What’s the big deal? I don’t know…but there’s something there (at least there is for me this morning). It’s unexpected…and it’s a small thing I would normally miss, but God is pointing it out to me this morning.

Maybe it’s about the noise in our (OK, my) lives? Seems like noise and motion and commotion is a constant in daily life now-a-days. Perhaps I just needs to slow down a little, create some peace and quiet, and let God fill His temple–me. It’s easy to say…harder to put into practice, but if Solomon could build an entire Temple (over an 11 year span) without a lot of noise–I should be able to stop and create some silence in my spirit so I can hear His Spirit.

Or maybe it’s just cool that Solomon could it this way? Or maybe I just ate something funky for dinner last night. You decide!

Need Your Opinion…

Tuesday, November 27th, 2007

I am working on a seminar for church called “Foundations”. The concept is teaching the basics (our foundations) of the Christian faith. The first seminar is starting in January and I thought I knew what I was going to start with (the seminar will have 4 different topics–covered in separate seminars over a year or more time) but after some prayer and thought about it I may be changing directions a little bit. So I want your opinions (I’m also meeting with my pastor this week and his opinion will obviously factor greatly in the decision). Here are all 4 topics:

  1. Building Blocks of Christianity
  2. Holy Habits (a.k.a. Spiritual Disciplines)
  3. Famous Old Testament Stories
  4. Famous New Testament Stories

I thought I was going to start with “The Building Blocks of Christianity” which will focus on the most important theological Christian concepts (such as The Virgin Birth, The Trinity, Second Coming, etc). However, I’m thinking maybe of starting with the “Holy Habits” seminar which focuses on spiritual disciplines (such as Prayer, Studying Scripture, Fasting, etc). Both are important, but I’m thinking perhaps starting off with the more personal side, versus the more academic, may be better??

Which would you be more interested in? Or which would you start with??

Don’t be shy…let your voice be heard!! And thanks in advance!

Not Very Special

Sunday, November 25th, 2007

I won’t be the last guy to talk about it this week, but the Bronco’s “Special Teams” are anything but! Here’s the math:

Devon Hester x 2 + Blocked Punt = 21 Points and a Loss

Will somebody please explain to me why you EVER kick the football to Hester? Are these guys not watching the same highlight reels the rest of us are forced to watch week after week about this guy? Did they really think they were good enough to stop him (apparently so after reading this in the Denver Post-click here)? And even if they did to start the game shouldn’t that first run back have given them a clue?

I’m sticking by my prediction for the year: 7-9 and no playoffs this year. I hope they pull it out, but they certainly haven’t earned it this year.

Thanksgiving

Thursday, November 22nd, 2007

You had to know I’d blog on this topic today, right? So what am I thankful for?

The list is so long that I don’t have enough time for it all…God has truly blesses me beyond anything I deserve!

However, topping the list:

  1. My beautiful bride…I certainly married up!
  2. My fabulous kids…even though some days make me wonder.
  3. Good health…especially now that I’ve lost 60 lbs
  4. A  good job…yes, I complain about it (doesn’t everyone), but when I step back and look at the big picture I know that I have nothing to complain about.
  5. Family and Friends…you knew about the family but thought I didn’t have any friends, right? ;o)
  6. A God who loved me so much that He died for me…it’s a short list of those who would do that. I can never repay Him (and He doesn’t even ask for it anyway).

Here’s hoping you have a great Thanksgiving with your family and friends…and may God’s blessing continue in your life!

PS: Only 31 shopping days left until Christmas. DOH!

From the Mouth of Babes

Tuesday, November 20th, 2007

As I was reading Psalm 8 this morning, the following verse caught my attention:

“You have taught children and infants to give you praise,
silencing your enemies and all who oppose you.”
Psalm 8:2

Kind of encouraging don’t you think? If children and infants can praise God–and have that kind of influence in their praises–think about what you and i can do with our praises!

But then I got to thinking that it’s also a little convicting. Am I praising like a child? Or have I allowed the world to taint and shape my praise? Am I praising God like a child–purely and innocently? In this case, it seems acting like a child might just be the way to go!

Listening to God

Sunday, November 18th, 2007

Most of us know what it means to take our prayers to God (at least in theory anyway), but this week I’ve been pondering and contemplating and working through the idea of listening to God in my prayer time. It’s not natural–at least not to me. I can pour out my requests and praises and confessions with no problems. Every once in awhile I even manage a prayer or two for someone else.  ;o)

But stopping and listening? That’s a whole other story. Even when I try I find my ind wandering and before you know it I “wake up” and realize I didn’t hear much at all…at least not from God. And it’s certainly not His fault!

So that’s the discipline I’m working on this week…trying to focus my attention on God and hearing His voice. Trying to become attuned to the Spirit of God (which He promised) and getting in tune with Him. It’s not easy…but nothing worth doing really is right?

So pray for me this week that I will be learn and practice His presence. And I’ll pray the same for you. Maybe together one of us will hear Him this week. ;o)

Oh, and if you’ve got any thoughts on this topic…hit that little comment link and let ‘er rip!

Gimme a Break!

Thursday, November 15th, 2007

Just read an article (click here to read it) that a “Santa Training Class” in Australia is telling prospective Santas that they shouldn’t say “ho ho ho” anymore because it might be offensive to women and children. Instead, they should say “ha ha ha”.

Once again…Political Correctness run amok!
